Organic waste makes up more than 30 percent of California’s waste sent to landfills and contributes to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. California’s AB 1826 and The Town of Truckee’s Municipal Code Section 6.01.070 require Mandatory Commercial Organic Waste Recycling. Organic waste from large organic waste generators must be separated from garbage and diverted from landfill. TTSD’s food waste collection service is available February 1, 2019. Through this service, organic materials from commercial subscribers will be hauled to be composted at  RT Donovan Composting Facility in Sparks, NV. Covered businesses must subscribe to this service or certify they are self-hauling their organic waste to be recycled or reused elsewhere.
