Are you a Truckee community member passionate about shaping our town’s future? Join us for a special workshop hosted by the Town of Truckee, where you can contribute your ideas on building decarbonization programs and policies, including potential “reach codes.” This is your chance to make a difference!

What is Building Decarbonization?

Building decarbonization refers to activities and programs that reduce or eliminate greenhouse gas emissions from buildings. This can be done by making sure our buildings as energy efficient as possible, electrifying systems and appliances, and sourcing energy from renewable sources. In Truckee, 59% of our community-wide greenhouse gas emissions come from building energy use, highlighting the importance of reducing energy consumption to meet state and local climate goals.

What are Reach Codes? 

Reach codes are local ordinances that set higher building energy performance standards than those required by the State code. These codes typically apply to new construction and sometimes major renovations or additions. Reach Codes can target energy efficiency, energy storage, solar readiness, or electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Reach codes play a crucial role in advancing sustainable building practices and supporting our community’s climate resilience efforts.
